Being the star of a popular teen drama on a tiny network is something safe and familiar, especially after eight years. Getting great reviews for barely seen indie films and accolades for taking risks is safe in a different way because he's only doing what he loves for himself.
Being given a production deal by a premium cable network, complete with creative control and final approval on casting is terrifying, exhilarating, and a dream come true.
