All right folks, time to flex a different set of creative muscles. If you or your character were bored or inspired, what would you draw? For you, the player, give us a doodle or sketch of your character doing something, stick figures on up to shaded renderings are fine, no one will judge you. Or, if you prefer, for your character(s), what would they doodle?

There's an old saying that English teachers are overly fond of - "Write what you know." But if we only stuck to the familiar, how would we ever reach the fantastic? A mixture of what we know, and what we can imagine is often the best combination.

Author Tim O’Brien - speaking about his collection of stories, The Things They Carried - tells us about two states of truth -- the happening truth, and the story truth.

Here is happening-truth, I was once a soldier. There were many bodies, real bodies with real faces, but I was young then and afraid to look …

Here is the story-truth. He was a slim, dead, almost dainty young man of about twenty. He lay in the center of a red clay trail near the village of My Khe. His jaw was in his throat. His one eye was shut, the other eye was a star-shaped hole. I killed him.

Today's assignment is to take a real life experience you have had, and turn a happening truth into a story truth. Take one of your own real experiences, and figure out how you will turn it into part of a story narrative for one of your characters.

It's that time again - Roleplay Sunday, where you let your inner voice out to play and hopefully chat based on a roleplaying prompt. This time around, we'd like your inner character(s) to show us how they respond to being stuck in 'the middle of nowhere', whether because of mechanical failure, isolation, being dropped into circumstances beyond your control, or whatever else might contrive to push your character out of their element. How do they handle it? How do they get out of it?

Leonardo da Vinci's famous last words were: "I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have." Does your character feel the same way?

As with other Quotation Saturdays, answer as you see fit - a drabble, a story, a character reaction, a picture, or anything else that comes to mind for your character.

As we turn the page from 2014 to 2015, it is a time for reflecting on our achievements and goals. We at Charloft hope we can help you achieve some of those goals! Tell us:

What writing did you get done in 2014? Did you reach any writing related goals you set for yourself?

What are your writing related goals for the coming year?

What are they talking about, 'this is not the time to panic'? This is the -perfect- time to panic! But why? Are aliens coming? Are the zombies breaking down the door? Did they bring back the McRib?

Tell us why you should be panicking. And then panic. Hopefully someone is around to calm you down - or at least back you up.

Respond in some manner to this quote:

"When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life." - John Lennon

Respond in any way you like - a drabble, a story, a poem, an amusing anecdote, etc.

(A day late because these moderators were out all day celebrating the New Year!)

Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish folk song. The lyrics were written by poet Robert Burns in 1788, and set to music shortly thereafter. The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" approximately means 'times gone by' . Singing the song at the new year reminds us that while we look forward to the coming year, we should not forget our past.

Write a drabble (100 words) in response to Auld Lang Syne.

And on that note, todays's prompt is to come up with a meme for your character or world.  You can use an existing one if you'd like!  For bonus points, write a short explanation so that everyone else can get the joke.

Here is a link to an easy meme generator.

Technology is great, isn't it? No matter what realm you hail from, someone is always coming up with new ideas to push out the old and make life better. But is all new innovation really great? For this Twosday, write about something new in your world that is making life truly wonderful, and something old in your world that is fine just the way it is.

From zen to nihilism, Catholicism to Atheism , self-serving to giving - there are many ways to believe and behave in our lives. Characters are no different. Today we present a little survey on Philosophy and Belief. Answer as many or as few questions as you like!

1. What is your character's philosophy of life / personal beliefs? Have they ever had a radical shift in these beliefs?

2. How is it similar to / different than your own? Is it difficult to write someone of different beliefs? Have you ever changed one of your own beliefs because of a character's?

3. How open is your character about their philosophy and beliefs?

4. Would you say that writing for many characters with differing beliefs helps you to be more open minded?

5. What do you think would happen if world or religious leaders had to roleplay someone from a completely different belief system than their own? Would they learn anything from the experience?

A mysterious message arrives, inviting you to write a letter and make a new friend from far away places. How far away are those places? Well there's only one way to find out...

Write a letter to make a new pen pal. No matter how that letter is delivered from your world (email, messenger, owl, post office) , it finds its way to a pen pal - perhaps across space, time, and dimensions!

Be sure to comment with the rp tag in addition to your regular character tag.

Then check out what other people have posted, comment and make yourself a pen pal from far, far away!
