Thursday Drabble - Auld Lang Syne

(A day late because these moderators were out all day celebrating the New Year!)

Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish folk song. The lyrics were written by poet Robert Burns in 1788, and set to music shortly thereafter. The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" approximately means 'times gone by' . Singing the song at the new year reminds us that while we look forward to the coming year, we should not forget our past.

Write a drabble (100 words) in response to Auld Lang Syne.

List your resolutions -- and tell us how likely you are to keep them.

I only made one resolution this year, and that was to mention my late husband a little less. This year will be six years since he passed away, and people tell me a lot that I talk about him as often as if he were still alive. That used to confuse me; he's the only man I was with for my whole adult life, my husband of nearly 20 years, and the father of my son. Why wouldn't I still talk about him?

But I kind of get what they meant now. I have a wonderful new boyfriend that I really want to make something with; we haven't been together very long, but he's already been so good to me. I don't want our relationship to be in the shadow of my marriage. And I know my husband well enough to know that he'd tell me what would make him happiest, is me and Wes being happy. So I'm going to give this a go. I may not be very good at it, but I'm going to try at least.

Friday - Resolutions

1. Do the best I can for the people I love. I try to do this all the time, but I can always improve.

2. Step up my workout routine. I'm good about jogging and doing some weight training, but I'd love to have a goal to work toward. Maybe I can plan to run the L.A. marathon or something.

3. Volunteer more. Every year I want to do this but I never do. I give a lot of money to charity every year, but I think I should give more of my time. It's time for me to step up.

4. Patch things up with Mom. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this, but I'm going to try.

5. I just want to be a good husband. Honestly, nothing else on this list matters to me as much as that does.

A mystery meme

I must admit, I'm new to this concept of the 'meme' - we don't have them where I'm from. So apologies if this isn't funny or anything, but this is me preparing for a local broadcast of Captain Mystery's Strange Theater.

As Captain Mystery, I have to maintain an air of secrecy about my real life. Not to mention, we all have our secrets that we don't exactly want to let out into our public lives.

It's a little difficult to 'stay mysterious' in the midst of a Russian zombie invasion, however. There's more of the real Quen slipping through than I am entirely comfortable with. But well, what can be done?

Captain Mystery has to defend his town.
